Description

This painting is inspired by an amazing encounter I had in the Florida Keys while snorkeling under a bridge. A group of the biggest tarpon I've ever seen emerged from the shadows behind me and casually glided towards me. They mostly ignored my presence, obviously knowing they were the top dogs of that water. As they passed into the light in front of me, I was just astonished by their size and shimmer of their scales. The lead fish then did a huge yawn gape, as if had seen my stunned look, and wanted to leave me absolutely awestruck...which it did! To see these majestic fish in the wild, eye to eye, is an experience I'll never forget, and I wanted to immortalize it with this painting. I named it "Ghost of the Gulf" because of the way they seemingly apparated next to me and then vanished into the blue ether.
