I created this oil painting to immortalize the lifeguard tower at Nokomis Beach, FL.  We lived very close to the beach, and would often ride our bikes to watch the sunset.  It was particularly interesting on Wednesday’s and Saturday’s when the Nokomis Drum Circle was out there.

People often went up on the tower to get the last glimpse of the sun before it dipped below the ocean.  I wanted to capture that very moment, when shadow had already crept up the beach and only the tower stood illuminated for a few more seconds.  

Sadly, hurricane Milton devastated Nokomis Beach on October 9th,  2024, and this lifeguard tower was completely destroyed.
